Our Apprenticeship Scheme is something we are immensely proud of, with approximately 80%of our highly skilled Engineers having joined Coborn through our Apprenticeship Scheme, it is our ethos to continue to develop the talent our business needs and provide opportunities for training and progression through our programme and ultimately a career in engineering at Coborn.

We offer different levels of apprenticeship programmes at Coborn, incorporating bespoke and specialist on the job training as well as working closely with external training providers to fulfil off the job training through recognised qualifications.

The unique structure of our Apprenticeship programme allows our Apprentices to gain high levels of skill and competence in all operational areas of engineering, following which Apprentices can select a principle department or discipline to progress their skill to a more advanced level. We use challenging training plans covering all key operations departments within Coborn, including:

Milling; Turning; Grinding; Electrical; Assembly; Design; Spraying; Spindles;

It is our belief that not only should our Apprenticeship Programme enable the development of first class precision engineers but also the business leaders of the future so we have recently reviewed our programme to incorporate complementary learning in many relevant areas of business.

Career Paths

The Coborn Apprenticeship Scheme is designed to support careers paths into many professional roles, such as:

Design Engineer; Process Engineer; Applications Engineer; Development Engineer; Electrical Engineer; Mechanical Engineer.

Whichever career path you choose in the end, rest assured you will be working with some of the most highly skilled and progressive engineers within the diamond tooling industry.

Recruitment & Criteria…Our Apprenticeships have no upper age limit, eligibility is based purely on the criteria set out below. We are also happy to receive applications while you are still studying and for you to reference your predicted grades in your application, however, you must have received your final grades by the Apprenticeship start date.

Intermediate Apprenticeship Criteria – 2 x GCSE’s at grade C/4 or above, or equivalent.

Advanced Apprenticeship Criteria – 4 x GCSE’s grade C/4 or above (including maths & English), or equivalent.

Higher Apprenticeship Criteria – 3x A Levels grade C/4 or above, or equivalent.

At Coborn we believe in keeping things simple yet effective. This is reflected in the way that we select apprentices to join our team. The stages below give you an indication of what to expect when applying for one of our Apprenticeships.

Stage 1 – Initial Application;

Stage 2 – Telephone Interview;

Stage 3 – Face to Face Interview, and assessment of engineering capability/interest.
